Housed in a laminated internal flipback gatefold picture sleeve, similar to the UK album. Background

Sixties Italian albums appear to be almost equally scarce and often found in less than Good condition. Beatles albums are no exception to this rule, covers are often torn, records badly scratched and labels barely legible, yet their scarcity and differences make them highly sought-after among collectors.

Between 1963 and early 1965 Beatles albums were issued in mono only on a red "Parlophon" label, these are some of the rarest Beatles items to find in any condition! In mid 1965 Parlophone issued Beatles albums on a silver and black label, again the logo read "Parlophon" without the 'e'. This lasted until 1968 when all albums were reissued in Stereo and the labels changed to "Parlophone" with the 'e'

The condition of Italian records generally is less than than those from the UK, US or other European Countries, but collectors are usually prepared to accept inferior quality items due to the scarcity of these unique Italian LPs, however the condition of this album is highly respectable!


The labels are deep red finish with bright silver "Parlophon" logo and tracklisting also in silver. There are many light marks around the spindlehole on both sides, indicating significant play.
The Matrix Numbers are machine stamped, they are as follows

Side One XEX 503 - 4N
Side Two XEX 504 - 4N

The date 1 12 64 has also been machine stamped into the dead vinyl. This was the date of this 1st red label issue.

Red label Italian original LP's have been compared in scarcity to UK black and gold Parlophone labels in that they are almost never found in anything but poor condition. They were available in MONO only.

The vinyl has many light cosmetic marks and plays with some background noise evident in quieter passages such as track breaks. Despite these cosmetic flaws it does play through with no skips or jumps due to the deep grooves of original 1960's pressings.

The sleeve

The picture sleeve is similar to the UK design in that it is a gatefold picture sleeve with internal flipbacks and the record is removed from right to left from inside the gatfold. It is laminated front, back and inside right. The obvious differences being the catalogue number in the top right hand corner on the front and the 'Dischi Parlophon' logo in the bottom left, also on the front.
Inside the gatefold, on the left hand side at the bottom the text 'Dischi Parlophon' and 'Carisch s.p.a. Milano' can be found.
As with the UK sleeve, this is the sleeve most prone to aging and damaging due to the fragility of the sleeve and the bad design of having to open the gatefold to remove the record.
The front of the sleeve has some creasing to the laminate and sleeve wear to the far right hand side. The corners are a little rounded, from shelf storage and the spine of the gatefold has started to wear and has begun to fail at the bottom edge causing a 5mm split, however it is impossible to stress just how rare these red label issues are - a mint copy (should one exist) would fetch in excess of twice this adventageous price!

A respectable copy of a geniune foreign pressed rarity!
