Rising to prominence in the '60s alongside Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and other greats, Toots' soulful voice has earned him comparisons to Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett, making him one of the most respected and versatile artists in reggae, sould and R&B. On 'Flip & Twist', Toots delves into those soul and R& B influences, creating a record that's as much 1960s Detroit or Muscle Shoals as it is Kingston, Jamaica. The opener 'Almighty Way' is a modern day gospel-soul classic. 'Fool For You' finds Toots at his most vulnerable, creating a souldful ballad a la Four Tops. Toots also tackles her the Steve Wonder classic 'Higher Ground' turning it into a contemporary reggae classic. And on 'Jungle' and 'Maybe Yow' he explores dance music and hip-hop beats)
