RAVI SHANKAR The Genius Of Ravi Shankar (Late 70s Dutch issue of the 1972 10-track double LP by the virtuoso Sitar player that is revered as much by Western musicians as Eastern. On this series of recordings he is joined by Chatur Lal, talented young Tabla player, along with master instrument maker & Tamboura player Nodu C. Mullick. The gatefold picture sleeve has a nice narrative inside by Alan Hovhaness, which goes some way to explaining the Tala, which roughly equates to a 'Bar' inWestern Notation & the permutations of Matra subdivisions or 'beats' within the Tala, which can be as few as three or as many as one hundred & eight. Most of the time, if you can count 16, 14, 12, 10, 7 or 6, which are the most common number of Matras within the Tala, then you should be OK with the Metre! An incredible double album of sublime music in great condition S67269)
