Let The Music Play - Special DJ Edit

SHANNON Let The Music Play - Special DJ Edit (Rare 1984 UK 7" metal based single sided high quality methyl cellulose lacquer acetate for the single edit release. This acetate is in perfect playing order. The 'Master Room' hand annotated custom studio label has the title, time & artist and a 'Special DJ Edit' sticker as this copy was an unusual re-editing of the song before re-presenting it to radio stations & was sent out in advance of the final pressed record being available. So few acetates are ever used for promotional purposes, but this is actually one that was specifically cut to do just that. To accompany the acetate is a cover sheet explaning the decision on the single & the reason for the acetate dated 16th January 1984, with the promise that the finished record should be arriving by the end of the week. An unusual one, this & in beautiful near 'as new' condition)

Tracklisting & More Information

An acetate is normally a transitional stage between the master tape and the finished vinyl record but were occasionally used for a songwriter to convey a song idea to a band or person or as a swift promotional mechanic before the final press is completed to send to radio stations & reviewers.

Originally acetates were used for home recording in the days before tape recorders, but since the advent of cassette tape & CDR are now no longer used for providing bands & their entourage copies of today's studio efforts. A machine actually cuts the grooves into the acetate like a lathe.

The acetate is used to assess whether the music has been successfully transferred to disc. It is checked by the sound engineer. There may be only one copy made of a particular recording, sometimes more are cut and sent to the studio and band members for approval.

The acetate comes before making the master, and allows the sound to be checked without great expense.

It is unusual for more than a dozen to be manufactured, so from the collector's point of view an acetate is a rare find indeed! If the recording is rejected the acetate may be the only record that survives. The rejected cut may simply be poor quality, however the artist may have opted to use a different take of the song, if so, the acetate becomes much more precious.

An incredible find & certainly one of only a few that would have been produced.
