Tracklisting & More Information

EMI exported to countries & territories that had limited manufacturing capacity. In addition, they supplied recordings to British & American Service bases around the world. To this degree, EMI manufactured three 'Export Only' albums to be sold thrugh PX at American Service bases that were normally issued on Capitol in the United States.

'Something New' was the first of these three albums, being issued in July 1965 with a unique catalogue number. The first of these that were delivered actually had the 'Sold In The UK' text printed on the labels in error as they were never intended to be sold in the UK at all!

This is technically the second variant, as the errant 'Sold In The UK' text has now been correctly removed.

Labels:-

These are as per the UK mainstream releases in that they are the familiar black label with yellow 'Parlophone' logo & silver print text. They have 'Made In Gt. Britain' text at the bottom but do not have the incorrect 'Sold In The UK'.
There is no writing or sticker residue & there are just a few spindle marks around the centre hole.

Condition:

The sleeve is manufactured by Garrod & Lofthouse & is of front laminated flipback design with 'Patents Pending' text on the bottom flip.
As is most often the case with these, the front of the sleeve shows several light creases to the laminate and a bit of edge and corner scuffing, but believe me it is normally a lot worse!
The unlaminated back shows just a little mild discolouration through handling & remains mostly white, despite its history. There is a small area of paper loss at the bottom left that has removed some of the text below the Parlophone logo, presumably from the removal of a historic sticker way back when.
The flips are still secure, the colours remain bright & the spine clearly readable.
Because of the area of paper loss, we can only really grade this VG-, although most of the sleeve is a healthy VG or better.

The vinyl has fared remarkably well ands although obviously played, has not been played to excess and appears to have been reasonably well looked after. There are a few suface hairlnes visible on both playing surfaces, but none that are deep enough to affect play or spoil enjoyment, although some background noise may be heard at times, along with the odd click. This would be graded VG/VG+ as there is very little lessening in sound quality. As per the UK releasesof this period, this has an 'EMITex' lined inner.

All in all a very acceptable, if not mint, copy of this rare export album at an advantageous price!
