HANK MOBLEY No Room For Squares (Bloody marvellous 1963 US 6-track mono LP on the 'New York USA' address label, with a deep groove on the second side label & a small 'R' logo under 'Note' both sides. 'Van Gelder' is machine stamped in the run-out of side 1 along with the 'ear' etching both sides. This is a classic from start to finish, arguably Hank's finest & certainly a Blue Note must have. Features either Lee Morgan or Donald Byrd on trumpet, Andrew Hill or Herbie Hancock on piano,John Ore or Butch Warren on bass and Philly Joe Jones drums, pasted picture sleeve. Condition : -

Obtained from a one previous owner collection, the heavyweight pasted sleeve is in great shape. The colours are still rich & vivid & all text is clearly legible, including along the spine. There is hardly any scuffing, with just a little bit along the bottom or top left corner. The back panel reveals some discolouring along the top but this is forgiveable. As a nice touch, there is a Mecolico royalty sticker for author's rights still attached on the back, which were affixed during export from the US. Very nice indeed.

Labels :-

This beautiful first issue copy was pressed just after "Blue Note Records" became an incorporated company & a registered trademark, hence the inclusion of 'INC' & 'R' lettering on the labels. The all important first issue 'New York USA' address is on both sides & there is a deep groove visible on the second side. The labels reveal hardly any spindle wear by the centre hole indicating very little play.

Vinyl :-

The 'Van Gelder' machine stamp is in the run-out on the first side, & the famous 'ear' etching can be seen in both run-outs. A combination of Van Gelder's sound engineering & Plastylite pressing is well & truly the 'golden age' of highest quality, Blue Note pressings. This one is no different & sounds unbelievably good! The heavyweight vinyl is super clean & reveals only some very faint cosmetic wear when held to the light in a few areas, which does not affect play. This really is a beautiful, Excellent condition example.
Highly recommended & one of the Top 5 Blue Note albums for sure!
