ALLAN HOLDSWORTH None Too Soon (1996 Japanese 9-track CD, a departure from the norm, as Allan, along with backing from Gordon Beck, Gary Willis & Kirk Covington, interprets jazz standards, but not "jazz standards" as we know it. This is the spine-tingling modern end of the genre, with the genius compositions of Coltrane ["Countdown"] & Django ["Nuages"] in the mix, along with a magical version of The Beatles' "Norwegian Wood", which Gordon Beck had previously turned upside down & inside out with John McLaughlin way back in '68, picture sleeve with fold-out Japanese insert & obi-strip POCP-7028)
