THE MARTY PAICH QUARTET The Marty Paich Quartet Featuring Art Pepper (1958 US 9-track second issue black vinyl mono LP on the magenta Tampa label, also featuring Buddy Clark on bass & Frank Capp on Drums, front pasted picture sleeve. Recordedin a rare moment in the fifties when he was not in Jail, you can see even in these early sessions that whatever his personal problems, he projected soul whenever he played, as perfected in his mid seventies comeback albums after a long periodin rehab. The playing on this album is one of a very competent small unit firing on all cylinders and is probably ranks alongside the later album with Miles Davis' rhythm section as one of his fines fifties outings. As is often seen with this design of sleeve, the edges have been tape reinforced as they were very pront to splitting. There is a tiny spot of paper loss on the front & minor corner creasing, but far less wear & tear than is usually seen. The vinyl remains in very nice condition and, although visibly scuffed, these are of a very light hairline nature and were probably caused by being removed from the sleeve as the vinyl retains its sheen to this day and looks only lightly played. A perfectly acceptable, if not mint, copy of this great and very rare album at an advantageous price TP-28)
