PAUL NICHOLAS Freedom City / Run Shaker Life (Mega-rare 1970 UK 7" vinyl single with intact 3-prong centre, die cut company sleeve. Yes, this is the SAME artist that would go onto release a string of pop/reggae lite singles in the mid-'70s and then star in 'Just Good Friends' and more recently 'Eastenders' - please prepare to cast your prejudices aside! The title track is a huge piano led ballad with rousing chorus which could easily be an outtake from the musicals 'Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar' [not surprising as Nicholas had lead roles in both]. However, it's the B-Side where the real action is; a cult favourite on the mod and psych scenes, recent years have seen it described as 'freakbeat' - whatever you call it, it's four minutes of supremely funky psych with Nicholas's sonorous vocals lending it an other-worldy edge - the percussion breakdown mid-way through is pretty damn hot too!! Condition-wise there are some visible scuffs/hairlines and the vinyl is graded VG, play-testing reveals no great loss in fidelity - it's a stone-cold classic, a bona-fide cult fave and the first copy we've ever had - NICE!)
