PAUL GONSALVES Cookin' (Wonderful 1958 US first press 9-track deep groove mono LP on the black & silver Argo label, simply a masterclass in contemporary Jazz & packed with original material, recorded August 6, 1957 with Clark Terry, Willie Jones, & fellow Ellington band members, Jimmy Woode & Sam Woodyard. The sleeve states "Daddy-O" Presents & there is a song called 'Daddy-O Patio' dedicated to Chicago's then-leading jazz DJ, Daddy-O Daylie. This Jazz rarity comes from the privatecollection of a former staff member for Dobells record shop in Charing Cross, London. The cover [VG] is exceptionally nice looking & the sturdy panels show little signs of wear other than discolouring creeping in around the edges. The pasted artwork slick looks amazing & remains unaffected by the ravishes of time. There is a 1" seam split at the bottom & otherwise just a little faint corner scuffing. The spine is still clear as daylight & would sit proudly on any shelf. The heavyweight vinyl has been professionally cleaned & grades Excellent to Near Mint with very few signs of play.
