Please Please Me - 4th

THE BEATLES Please Please Me (Very rare 1963 UK fourth pressing 14-track mono LP, the first on the black/yellow Parlophone label, with 'The Parlophone Co' & small '33 1/3' after the matrix number, but without 'Sold In The UK' or 'Recording First Published' label text, retaining the Dick James Music label credits for 'Please Please Me' & 'Ask Me Why'. What makes this copy that extra bit special is that it includes an original 10" x 8" Parlophone release catalogue!, a tasty slice of music history that highlights how different to the rest of the Parlophone roster the fab-four were - Ron Goodwin & His Orchestra, Mrs Mills, Bridie Gallagher, Jimmy Shand anyone? We can only assume it was included with the album or given away at point of purchase. The sleeve is in nice condition with just a little light scuffing at the corners and a small thumb nail split to the bottom flipback, the colours are amazingly vivid with very little discolouration to the reverse. The vinyl is fantastic & remains in superb EX condition with just a couple of light surface hairlines and a little spindle wear to show for its fifty-six years! PMC1202)

The labels

Black and Yellow Parlophone in design with "The Parlophone Co Ltd" perimeter text. As this is an original 1963 second pressing there is no 'Sold in the UK' text across the centre of the label.
The label still has the Dick James Music credit for Please Please Me & Ask Me Why.
Clearly readable silver text with no blemishes or fading, striking yellow Parlophone logo & no obvious spindle marks, indicating little play.

Matrix numbers

The matrix numbers on both sides finish -1 indicating that this copy was among the first pressed:

Side One XEX 421-1N
Side Two XEX 422-1N

The Vinyl

The vinyl is in fabulous condition with no audible or visible scratches or marks. On close inspection there are a couple of light surface hairlines visible. The vinyl retains it's original shine despite being over 56 years old. This is highly unusual as many copies of this album were played excessively at parties during the 60's and many became damaged or badly scratched.

The Garrod & Lofthouse front laminated picture sleeve has the large block 'mono' logo on the front and 'photo Angus McBean' credit in bottom right hand corner, with undamaged spine and just one minor thumb nail split to the otherwise secure flipbacks, there is just some minor scuffing to the corners.

The Parlophone release catalogue is double sided and is in 'as new' condition, hard to believe it's 56 years old!

A nice & very acceptable EX-/EX copy at an advantageous price.
