CHARLIE PARKER Charlie Parker On Verve 1946-1954 (Magnificent 1983 Japanese promotional sample 10-LP box set for review ahead of release, featuring all of the JATP jams from this period, all of the stunning "Bird & Strings" sides, his meetingswith Machito's Cuban orchestra, the 1950 session with Dizzy Gillespie & Thelonious Monk, small-group dates (including a 1951 date with Miles Davis), odd encounters with voices & studio bands, the famous "Jam Blues" with fellow altoists JohnnyHodges & Benny Carter, plus his final recordings, a set of Cole Porter tunes. Comes housed in a deep 12" picture box with 28-page 'sessionography' booklet & obi-strip. The packaging [VG+] has some light age wear with some scuffing to the edges & the vinyl discs are near 'as new' 00MJ3268/77)
