JOHN COLTRANE Africa (2015 UK/EU 5-track LP pressed on 180gram Vinyl -released in 1985 but recorded on 24th June 1958 at the Van Gelder Studio in Hackensack, NJ. These sessions feature original compositions by Wilbur Harden [best known for his work with Yusef Lateef and John Coltrane] and hard-bop trombonist Curtis Fuller. The 32-year-old John Coltrane had only just recorded 'Blue Train' a year earlier and it is interesting to hear his style beginning to stretch out, ashe makes his musical transition from strict hard bop to the groundbreaking style that would become legendary the following year on 'Giant Steps', making Coltrane one of the biggest names in jazz. Includes bonus recording 'Once In A While' [recorded 13th May 1958]; picture sleeve. The sleeve shows a couple of light indentations but few signs of wear. The vinyl is in Near Mint condition, showing no obvious signs of play. DOL754H)
