Tracklisting & More Information

A unique and intimate biography of ex-Beatle, artist, singer-songwriter, activist and legend John Lennon. The book is housed in a solid cardboard slipcase picture box, designed to offer protection to the "legendary" items stored within.

Lennon Legend is not a standard 'rock star' biography. This is a small museum of memorabilia designed to appeal to the most obsessive fan.

It easily lives up to this promise !

The author, James Henke, is the chief curator and head of exhibitions at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. He designed an exhibition called 'John Lennon: His Life and Work' which occupied a main part of the museum for some time. This book is an offshoot of that exhibition.

In its 66 pages are 23 brief biographical pieces arranged chronologically & covering the life and work of John Lennon. There are no surprises, you will already know most of it, but it does tell the tale of the lad from Liverpool as he moved from the Mersey to the Reeperbahn, from Abbey Road to The Dakota. The surprises are not in the text, but in the contents. The book is filled with compartments, envelopes and fold outs - A treasury including posters from 'A Hard Day's Night', copies of handwritten lyrics and childhood drawings - all waiting to be removed & handled.
There's even a yellowed replica of Lennon's grade school newsletter he called "The Daily Howl." & a school report card with a scribbled note from the headmaster, "The best report he has had for a long time. I hope this means that he has turned over a new leaf."

There is a replica programme from the Garden Fete, held at St. Peter's Church Field, July 6th, 1957, where the Quarry Men played. After the show Paul McCartney (who had been in the audience) taught Lennon "Twenty Flight Rock". There's a Quarry Men business card, a membership book to the Cavern Club & then follows the development of the souvenirs - Replicas of Beatles trading cards, a mini-version of a 45 sleeve, a ticket for the Royal World Premiere of "A Hard Day's Night," the front page of Rolling Stone Number One etc etc.

The later solo years are represented well with Sketches by Lennon's own hand, cards from Yoko Ono's art shows, the original lyrics of "Imagine" on 'Cloud' stationery. The final replica being a copy of John's hand-written lyrics for "Beautiful Boy".

Also included in this marvelous package is an exclusive CD which features interviews with John from The Mike Douglas Show in 1972, a radio broadcast in 1974 & an interview from his Dakota apartment recorded on December 8 1980.
John was shot & killed later that very night.
The programme ends with a live version of "Imagine" also taken from the Mike Douglas Show.

This is an essential item for any Lennon fan !
