THE RED CRAYOLA The Parable Of Arable Land (1994 French 13-track CD album, originally released in 1967 on the legendary IA label from Texas [recording began prophetically on April Fool's Day 1967!]; the 'Crayola were part of the burgeoning underground scene in Houston - this, their debut LP, contains a very distinct version of psychedelic rock, interspersed with barrages of pure noise attributed to 'The Familiar Ugly', a group of around 50 people armed with bells, buzzsaws, a motor cycle, hammers, bottles, sticks - it needs to be heard to be believed! Largely written off by contemporaries as a joke [not to mention a complete waste of vinyl], the Crayola have gone on to enjoy a unique place in experimental music, much revered, never bettered: frontman Mayo Thompson still leads a version of the band to this day!
