Anarchy In The UK Tour - Bournemouth Village Bowl

SEX PISTOLS Anarchy In The UK Tour (Super rare original UK concert poster for their show at the Bournemouth Village Bowl on Tuesday 2nd December 1976, part of the ill-fated Anarchy tour. Only three of the shows actually took place; this one was cancelled as a result of the bands profanity-laden television appearance! The poster measures 19½" x 29" in size and has the classic band name logo and tour name across the top, along with the supporting acts, including The Clash, Damned and Johnny & The Heartbreakers. This copy was acquired from original owner who went to the venue to get a ticket from the show and ended up coming away with a poster instead, almost forty years ago)

History
1976 was the year the world woke up to The Sex Pistols. Following their February debut London appearance at the Marquee, opening for Eddie & The Hotrods, they went on to play the 100 Club and the El Paradiso in Soho, returning to the 100 Club in May for a four-week Tuesday night residency. Gigs followed around the north of England, and at the Manchester Lesser Free Trade Hall in June, organised by Howard Devoto and Pete Shelley, then Sheffield on July 4th where The Clash opened for them.

The 100 Club Punk Festival took place over 2 nights in September, featuring the Buzzcocks, The Clash, The Damned, Sex Pistols, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Subway Sect and The Vibrators. Naturally, chaos reigned and the press had a field day. In October the Sex Pistols signed for EMI and their debut single, Anarchy In The UK, was released in November.

On December 1st the Sex Pistols appeared on Bill Grundy's 'Today' programme. Two days later, on Friday 3rd, their Anarchy UK Tour was due to kick-off at Norwich for a 19 date concert tour, supported throughout by The Damned, Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers and The Clash. Following the 'Filth and the Fury' media backlash caused after their appearance on the now infamous 'Today' programme most of the dates were cancelled or banned. Only three dates on the whole tour actually took place, eventually kicking off at Leeds Polytechnic on the 6th and then playing Manchester's Electric Circus on the 9th with the Buzzcocks, finally ending at Plymouth's Woods Centre on the 21st.

More Information
As mentioned above, this was acquired from the original owner who travelled to the venue in Bournemouth to actually purchase a ticket for the show, only to be told that due to the controversy of the band on the television the concert had been cancelled. However he managed to speak to one of the promoters at the venue who just happened to be removing the posters from display in the foyer, he asked if he could have one seeing as they were only going to be destroyed - this is that very poster, kept for 37 years!

Poster Details & Condition
Produced for the Bournemouth Village Bowl concert which was due to take place on Tuesday 2nd December 1976, this would have been the fifth show on the tour had it not been cancelled.

Printed on standard stock paper, the poster is black and fluorescent pink print and as mentioned above lists all the band's that should have performed on the bill along with all the tour dates.

For an item three years shy of the forty year mark this is actually in an amazing condition, there is one small tear at the bottom which has been taped repaired and another small one in the top left corner, these would have happened when it was removed from being displayed. The back shows signs of poster putty in all four corners which has been removed and has not affected the front print in anyway. This has been stored rolled and apart from the odd light crease mark the print is sharp with very little signs of age and only the odd scuff but still looks outstanding.

Once framed, as an item like this should be, these minor blemishes would be minimal.
