Tracklisting & More Information

History
The 100 Club, a typically jazz-oriented venue in London situated at 100 Oxford Street, W1. The club attained legendary status in modern British music, having played host to live music since 1942.

In September 1976, the club held the first international punk festival, an event which helped to push the then new punk rock movement from the underground into the cultural and musical mainstream.

Earlier that same month, concert promoter Ron Watts approached Malcolm McLaren and proposed that the Sex Pistols headlined the event. After that, they presented the idea to The Damned and The Clash, both of which quickly agreed to participate

The full line-up [not all listed on this club calendar] was as follows:

Monday, 20th September
Subway Sect
Siouxsie and the Banshees
The Clash
Sex Pistols

Tuesday, 21st September
Stinky Toys
Chris Spedding & The Vibrators
The Damned
Buzzcocks

The Punk festival of ’76 had an enormous effect on music in general and changed the club’s fortunes and image for good. No other venue wanted to put on Punk at all so it stayed at the club on and off for almost a decade, still the spiritual home of the Punk movement and still hold shows for some bands nowadays.
