(Rare 1960 first US issue 6-track deep groove mono LP on the 'West 63rd - NYC' address label, with 'INC' & 'R' registered trademarks & 'RVG' stampers & 'ear' etchings in the run-outs. This was Stanley's fantastic debut for Blue Note, alongside Horace Parlan [piano], George Tucker [bass] & Al Harewood [drums], more in the bop idiom than his later work & in keeping with the classic Blue Note sound of the era, a must own! The Sleeve :-

The heavyweight pasted laminate sleeve is in nice shape. Clean, with rich, vivid colours & all text clearly legible, there is just the faintest bit of corner wear & minor discolouring, grading Excellent.

The Labels :-

This beautiful first issue copy was pressed just after "Blue Note Records" became an incorporated company & a registered trademark, hence the inclusion of 'INC' & 'R' lettering on the labels.

These are the original 'Deep Groove' versions of the West 63rd Address label, twice as rare as the regular version, which is hard enough to find. Both sides are clean & free from writing, stickers or excessive wear. There is spindle wear by the centre hole to indicate play.

The Vinyl :-

The Rudy Van Gelder initials 'RVG' & the 'ear' logo are stamped and etched into the runoff area. The matrices, like the 'ear' are hand scratched. A combination of Van Gelder's sound engineering & Plastylite pressing is well & truly the 'golden age' of highest quality, Blue Note pressings. We really should be putting these in our audiophile store!

The vinyl has been professionally cleaned on a Matrix machine and has come up looking sparkling. The vinyl grades VG with a deep sheen both sides & some minor hairlines & the odd couple of faint marks which have very little to no effect on play. A nice, if not mint, example of this Blue Note rarity.
