They say you can judge a man by the company he keeps. Well just check Steve Reid's résumé! Starting his career as a Motown session drummer, Steve performed on hit records by Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, lived a stone's throw from John Coltrane, worked with Ornette Coleman AND James Brown, was hunted down by the FBI & spent two years in jail as a conscientious objector of Vietnam [right on!], immediately found work again with Fela Kuti AND Sun Ra, had a son who played drums with NWA, & was brought into the electronica world in later years collaborating with Four Tet. Phew! This album really works its way into the blood & you can see why Soul Jazz Records/Universal Sound were so eager to reissue it years ago.

Condition :-

Coming from a one owner collection from the UK that was packed with exotic imports & underground LPs of the seventies, mostly all concerning Freeform music of some kind, this example was bought new at the time & has been kept in exceptionally nice condition ever since.

The pasted card picture sleeve grades VG+ with no deletion cuts or writing. The edges & corners reveal a little scuffing to the paper, mostly natural, with all text legible including along the spine. The panels are nice & clean both sides & there is just one half inch split in the top right corner, so often found with American sleeves. A lovely example.

The vinyl grades Excellent. There are very few signs of play with this record. Being privately pressed in the States, some very, very faint & natural cosmetic wear can be detected under a bright light, which has no effect on playback. As cult as it gets, this one comes highly recommended!
