MILES DAVIS The Complete Live At The Plugged Nickel 1965
(2026 UK/EU limited edition 8-CD Box Set - The
Complete Plugged Nickel Live 1965 stands as one of the
most mythologised live recordings in jazz history,
documenting the moment when Miles Davis' Second Great
Quintet fully defined its identity in performance. Recorded
across seven sets at Chicago's Plugged Nickel Café on
December 22 and 23, 1965, the group - Miles Davis,
Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and
Tony Williams - systematically dismantles familiar
material and reconstructs it in real time, pushing rhythm,
harmony, and form to their limits. Captured in full by producer
Teo Macero, these performances reveal a band actively
challenging its own repertoire, stretching standards into
volatile, exploratory frameworks that reshaped modern jazz.
Although selections appeared sporadically in the 1970s and
1980s, the full scope of the engagement was only unveiled in
the early 1990s, when it was immediately recognised as one
of the greatest live jazz recordings ever issued, earning the
Penguin Jazz Guide's rare "Crown" accolade. Released to
coincide with Miles Davis' centennial, this 8-CD
edition mirrors the original complete sequence of
performances. Each disc is housed in its own newly designed
mini gatefold sleeve, all contained within a gold
foil-embossed slipcase box. The set also includes a 44-page
perfect-bound book featuring rare photographs from the
Plugged Nickel engagement, extensive new liner notes and
track-by-track commentary by Syd Schwartz, and Bob
Blumenthal's original essay. Essential)
