2005 US limited edition 5-CD box set, released by
Dust-to-Digital, dedicated to the legendary Fonotone label
founded by the iconic collector and archivist Joe Bussard.
Featuring five meticulously compiled CDs containing nearly
150 tracks, all recorded between 1956 and 1970 — many of
which appear here for the very first time on CD. Each disc is
thematically curated, with titles such as Jug In The Shade,
Flight Of Fonotone, Some Summer Day, Basement Blues, and
Wild Mountain Ramble. Expect a staggering range of American
roots music: blues, old-time country, jug band, gospel, and
early bluegrass, all captured in Bussard’s Frederick, Maryland
basement studio. Housed in a stunning heavy-duty custom
box, beautifully designed in a retro style evoking the original
charm of Fonotone. The box lid is decorated with the
Fonotone logo and a collage of artist names that recorded for
the label, including Blind Thomas, Mississippi Swampers,
Possum Holler Boys, Jolly Joe’s Jug Band, and many more. The
