Tracklisting & More Information
History
Cast your mind back thirty five years, were you there at the brink of a new revolution in music? Punk was full in swing along side disco, 70's rock was slowly fading with the likes of Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin no longer the grand force they once were at the start of the decade.
The New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) movement had begun to show just how much of a formidable new force it could be, with bands like Motorhead, Def Leppard, Samson, Iron Maiden, Diamond Head, Sweet Savage, Jaguar, Avenger, Blitzkrieg, Girlschool, Angel Witch, Witchfynde, Witchfinder General, Persian Risk, White Spirit, Tygers of Pan Tang, Tank and many more as the key force and resurgent of heavy metal in the 1980s.
Iron Maiden
The group had been going since 1975, in the midst of punk rock's peak in the UK; the group struggled to secure gigs out of the East End of London. Their first real release was The Soundhouse Tapes EP recorded in 1978 and released the following year after many line-up changes.
In December 1979, the band secured a major record deal with EMI, Adrian Smith was asked to join the group as their second guitarist, but at the time declined due to being busy with his own band Urchin, so Dennis Stratton was hired. Shortly afterwards, Doug Sampson left due to health issues and was replaced by ex-Samson drummer Clive Burr on Stratton's suggestion. This would be the line-up for the now legendary debut album, which was released on the 14th April 1980.
The Iron Maiden Tour
The band's first solo headlining tour, followed the co-headlined Metal for Muthas Tour from earlier in the same year, commenced with a British leg from the 1st April to 23rd August, although this included one concert in Finland, before the band supported Kiss on their Unmasked Tour from 24th August to 16th October.
Immediately following the tour, Dennis Stratton was sacked due to 'musical differences', and replaced with Adrian Smith. After he was hired, the band decided to undertake another British tour, taking place from 21st November to 21st December.
The tour would see them perform in mainland Europe for the first time, as well as record their first live video at the Rainbow Theatre in London on the last night of the tour.
Signatures
The previous owner clearly remembered with pride right where he was when he obtained this wonderful collection of autographs, he was lucky enough to attend the 30th May show on the tour at St Austell at the Cornwall Coliseum, and this was only forty six days after the album was released!
Obviously nowadays it would take a miracle of that matter a time machine to acquire a complete set of signatures for the debut album line-up, especially now that sadly Clive Burr is now no longer with us. This is an absolute must have, once in a life time opportunity, seriously not to be missed!
Up the Irons!
