Tracklisting & More Information
Ola Brunkert had been a jazz drummer, also being a member of the blues band Slim's Blues Gang, before joining pop group Science Poption in the mid-1960s. Then, through working with guitarist Janne Schaffer in the jazz-pop group Opus III later in the decade, he started getting work as a session musician from 1970 onwards.
Ola's first known ABBA-related session was also the group's very first single, People Need Love. Together with bass player Rutger Gunnarsson, Ola is probably the only musician to appear on all ABBA albums - he was one of the most frequently used Swedish sessions musicians during the 1970s. Ola also toured with ABBA in 1977, 1979, and 1980. (Extract from www.abbasite.com)
This incredible photograph album has been carefully compiled and would surely represent the pinnacle of any ABBA collection. It measures approximately 12” x 10” (30cm x 25cm), bound in brown faux leather, with gold coloured detailing and embossed OLA in the bottom right corner. All 32-pages contain photographs; the opening shot sets the scene - a flight case decaled with the 1979 tour badge, beside which is a torn and battered 1977 example, so the case has obviously seen previous tour action!
Subsequent images depict the journey to Canada, with candid shots onboard the aircraft, a view from 30,000ft, then arrival and baggage claim at the destination airport. The next sequence shows unloading and stage set-up at the Edmonton Coliseum concert venue, with Bjorn and Benny evident in the stage set-up process. Along with shots of the dressing room and wardrobe personnel, there's a great picture of Bjorn and Benny getting ready, wearing just their underpants! There's also a nice image of Frida, presumably performing a warm-up routine in a dance studio. Following soundboard checks and an empty stadium there are more dressing room images, with Frida having her hair done and Agnetha in make-up. The public start to fill the venue, the concert begins - there are many live photographs throughout the show - then, aftershow the band depart in a limo surrounded by ecstatic fans. Following a press conference there are further images on board the tour bus, then a variety of wonderful candid moments of ABBA and some of the band on board a yacht and lounging at the hotel. There's even a photograph of Frida waterskiing.
To complete this unique visual document, the inside front cover has been fully autographed. There is a circular tour sticker in the centre of the page. Frida has signed in the top left, adding her familiar 'heart' beneath, Agnetha has signed the top right, Bjorn the bottom left and Benny the bottom right. A perfect set of autographs, on a document that has context and gives a brief insight into life on tour with ABBA.
