The Beatles - Red Label - 1st Pressing

THE BEATLES The Beatles (Rare Italian original 1st pressing red 'Parlophon' label 14-track LP issued Nov 1963. This was the bands debut album in Italy. Housed in a unique laminated flipback picture sleeve, similar in design to the UK 'With The Beatles' album. It's quite common that Italian sixties records are found in almost unplayable condition, so finding a forty year old Beatles album in this condition is a very tall order.See 'More Info' for further details on the condition of this rarity.)

Tracklisting & More Information

Background

Sixties Italian albums appear to be almost equally scarce and often found in less than Good condition. Beatles albums are no exception to this rule, covers are often torn, records badly scratched and labels barely legible, yet their scarcity and differences make them highly sought-after among collectors.

Between 1963 and early 1965 Beatles albums were issued in mono only on a red "Parlophon" label, these are some of the rarest Beatles items to find in any condition! In mid 1965 Parlophone issued Beatles albums on a silver and black label, again the logo read "Parlophon" without the 'e'. This lasted until 1968 when all albums were reissued in Stereo and the labels changed to "Parlophone" with the 'e'

The condition of Italian records generally is less than than those from the UK, US or other European Countries, but collectors are usually prepared to accept inferior quality items due to the scarcity of these unique Italian LPs, however the condition of this album is highly respectable!

The labels are deep red finish with bright silver "Parlophon" logo and tracklisting also in silver. There are many light marks around the spindlehole on both sides, signifying some play, though not excessive. The track 'Misery' is miscredited as 'McCartner-Lennon' instead of McCartney!

The Matrix Numbers are machine stamped, they are as follows

Side One XEX 421 1
Side Two XEX 422 2

The date 26 11 63 has also been machine stamped into the dead vinyl. This was the date of this 1st red label issue.

Red label Italian original LP's have been compared in scarcity to UK black and gold Parlophone labels in that they are almost never found in anything but poor condition. They were available in MONO only.

The vinyl has a few very light surface marks, but having played it through for grading purposes it was staggering to hear the track breaks were almost perfectly silent. There is a sheen to the vinyl that's only present with sixties pressings, and the deep grooves make the light surface marks completely inaudible.

The sleeve is unique to Italy, though as previously stated the artwork is similar to the UK 'With The Beatles' album sleeve. The sleeve is fully laminated with flipbacks & Italian text on the back. This sleeve has survived the last 40 years with only one defect. The laminate has lifted appox 1/4" in on the front at the sleeve at the sleeve opening from about 1/3rd of the way down from the top to the bottom. The lifted laminate is still intact and can be seen in the picture.
All edges including the pinched spine are unworn and the laminated rear of the sleeve is white with minimal age yellowing.

A great foreign sixties pressing in extraordinary condition - by far the best copy to surface in many a year - should a mint copy exist it would easily fetch in excess of £2500!
