THE DESIGN

The overall dimensions of the piece are 11½" x 16" with the design itself being approximately
12" x 5".

The top/cover page is plain white glossy card with 'Zapple Logo Artwork' written in red marker pen and, intriguingly, '2644' & '1 Stripper' in blue ballpoint.

The second page is plain tracing paper with annotations in black marker pen, with arrows pointing at the Apple :-

"1) Use Word Zapple without "Apple" for record centre"
"2) Use Zappa & "Apple" for record sleeves"

"Apple to be used ONLY in conjunction with word Zappa on cover"

"Hold [Fold?] detail of lines"

'2644', presumably the design number, is hand written in blue ballpoint on the obverse of the paper.

Interestingly, although the handwriting is sometimes hard to read, the word 'Zapple' is clearly discernable in the first note, but seems to be 'Zappa' thereafter.
Certainly Frank Zappas Straight/Bizarre labels (& Frank himself) were an influence on the Beatles & it seems likely that they viewed Apple as their 'Straight' with Zapple to be their 'Bizarre' - Perhaps this was an internal private acknowledgement of Frank's idea ? Who knows ?


The bottom page is thick white card and simply shows the layout for the logo with 'Reduce To 2½"' & '1 4 thou film pos' annotated in blue ballpoint.

This is a superb piece of Apple history & comes with excellent provenance in that it was obtained from an ex-employee of Apple when the offices closed in the mid Seventies - a one of a kind!
