THE BEATLES Autographs - Signed By John (What we have here is an
insight into the life [and resultant spelling] of a mischievious fifteen
year old girl who lived in London at the dawn of the whirlwind decade
that the sixties were to become. She and her friend used to regularly
skip school on Wednesdays [tut, tut] to go to a live lunchtime Radio
Programme, 'Pop Inn', that was broadcast from a studio in Piccadilly.
They became regular visitors & familiar faces to one of the groups
that used to perform on the show, Gerry And The Pacemakers. They
then went to see Gerry And The Pacemakers at the Majestic in
Finsbury Park on Wednesday 24th April 1963. This was the third of
Brian Epstein's 'Mersey Beat Showcase' concerts with The Big Three,
Billy J Kramer & another Liverpool group, The Beatles. An interesting
comment in her diary at the time was 'Before today, we didn't like The
Beatles much, but now we do'. The groups were very accessible in
those early days & stayed around and chatted with fans. During this
time, she got George Harrison & John Lennon to sign her small
autograph book [being fans now]. A month later, The Beatles played
The Granada in Walthamstow as support to Roy Orbison. Hanging
around the stage door after the show, they bumped into their old
friends Gerry And the Pacemakers & once more met the Beatles. As
there was a second house that day, the girls actually left another 4" x
5" Autograph book with John Lennon in order for him to get a
complete set of autographs for them later, as by that time the others
had disappeared. That is where this story continues. John, being John,
obviously forgot to get the autographs for her as promised. John, also
being John, decided to do the next best thing, so read on ... The
next day, the eager fan went all the way back to the Granada to
collect her autograph book. On looking inside, there, as promised, was
written 'Love Beatles - John Lennon, George Harrison, Paul
McCartney, Ringo Starr'. Happy with recapturing the autograph
book, she went on to obtain Gerry And The Pacemakers
[again], Ben[ny] Hill, Don Charles, Bobby Tempest,
Cherry Rowland, Patsy Ann Noble, Iain Gregory, Kenneth McKellar,
Keith Fordyce, Roy Orbison [again], Hugh Lloyd, Dave from
The King Brothers & Ronan O'Casey. What she didn't realise at
the time was that forgetful Mr Lennon obviously neglected to
remember the book until it was either too late or decided to complete
it on his own, for the Beatles signatures here are ALL written
by John! On offer here is that autograph book, containing the clear &
unhurried autographs of everybody mentioned above, plus an
incredibly rare set of Beatles autographs ENTIRELY
WRITTEN by the hand of John Lennon. In addition to this, we also
have photocopies of the girl's diaries from these days with two
separate sheets detailing the memories of the events over forty five
years ago, before 'Beatlemania' made events like these impossible to
ever happen again. This is a spectacular item to see & would be a
jewel to own!) John Lennon is not known to have done this very
often, if at all, after 1963. Where other 'sets' of Beatles autographs
have turned up all signed by Paul, George, Ringo, Mal Evans or Neil
Aspinall, very very few have surfaced that have been entirely penned
by John. ** Possibly the rarest "Set" of
Beatles Autographs in the World! **
