ORCHESTRA & CHORUS of THE ROYAL OPERA HOUSE, COVENT GARDEN conducted by RICHARD BONYNGE La Fille Du Regiment (1974 UK narrow band second issue of the 1968 stereo double LP box set, featuring Joan Sutherland, Luciano Pavarotti, Spiro Mallas andMonica Sinclair. This recording is of particular note as it captures Pavarotti's legendary first turn as Tonio. Tonio's aria "Ah! Mes amis, quel jour de fete!" (which can be found at the beginning of the second disc) is probably the most difficult in the entire Tenor repertoire, with no less than nine high Cs, all before the performer has had a chance to warm up his voice. Pavarotti's effortless performance of this role secured his reputation as a world class tenor and earned him the title "King of the High C's" long before he recieved popular acclaim for taking Nessun Dorma into the charts. Complete with thirty two page illustrated libretto, the box shows minimal shelfwear and the vinyl remains near 'as new' with few signs of play SET372-3)
