Tracklisting & More Information

We should start by saying we have never seen a sixites original of this album in any shape or form. The front laminated picture sleeve is a thing of beauty in itself & offers some fantastic insight into both artists & their musical influences, ranging from Indian ragas (some of these influences materialise in the song 'Pretty Saro'), the sounds of the early Blues & the early experiments of Thelonious Monk, all playing a part. Of major note, Davy was equally at home dispensing traditional blues, folk or Jazz, & was a pioneer, the likes of which had never been seen before on these shores. As for Shirley, Billy Bragg once stated she is "without doubt one of England's greatest cultural treasures." This is a true match made in heaven for the British Folk fan.

Condition :-

The sleeve is the typical front laminated type of the period. It isn't mint & could be considered 'folked' with a degree of age yellowing mostly on the back. This is unobtrusive to the print & there are no tears or writing. The colours of the photograph on the front remain rich & vivid & the image has lost none of its effect. John Marshall's notes on the back are a joy to read with no blemishes that stand in its way. The insert remains off white & we would grade the cover an ideal Very Good.

Machine Stamped Matrices :
Side One: ARL 6551 1A
Side Two: ARL 6552 2A

We have given the vinyl a professional clean on a top of the line Matrix machine & both sides retain a deep sheen & sparkle. If your amp has a mono setting, it would be advised to set this from the off as this places the background noise well and truly in the background instead of sitting on the edge of a stereo image that isn't there.
On close inspection, there are a few faint paper scuffs & just one tiny scratch which barely affects play during 'Blue Monk'. The vinyl grades Very Good with very few concerns & with just a little mild surface, it remains highly enjoyable, looking very much the part of the fifty year old landmark recording it is.

Recommended.
