DUKE ELLINGTON The Complete Columbia Studio Albums Collection 1951-1958 (Out Of Print 2012 UK NINE CD album box set, showcasing in grand style several phases in the Ellington Orchestra's development; Masterpieces, Ellington Uptown, Blue Rose (with Rosemary Clooney), A Drum Is a Woman, Such Sweet Thunder (a commission from the Stratford Festival), Ellington Indigos, Black Brown & Beige with Mahalia Jackson, Bal Masque & Cosmic Scene; fully remastered & including bonus tracks. Each album is housed in individual LP-styled wallet picture sleeves with original artwork & 'six eye' label disc designs. The booklet contains complete discographical track annotation & personnel information, as well as a liner essay by Loren Schoenberg, the artistic director of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem, all housed in a fully glossed compact 5.5" x 5.5" x 1.5" clamshell box) faithfully reproducing the fantastic Ellington & Ella concert recordings from July 1966 at France's Cote d'Azur. Includes previously unreleased material such as an entire disc devoted to a fascinating Ellington orchestra rehearsal. These eight fine discs are spread across four double album jewel cases, each one tinted & custom embossed in a pop-art style, complete with anauthorative 130-page spiral-bound booklet offering in depth analysis, interviews & discography, all packaged in a 6" x 5.5" & 2.5" textured 'peep hole' slipcase box, & in Excellent condition allround)
