Released just seven months after his debut, Prince's 1979 self-titled second album showcased his growing mastery of songwriting, performance, and production. Featuring the iconic singles "I Wanna Be Your Lover" and "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?", the album marked Prince's breakthrough, blending funk, soul, pop, and rock with his unmistakable sensuality. Prince played almost every instrument on the record, with live bandmates Bobby Z. (drums) and André Cymone (bass) credited as "heaven-sent helpers."
