DAVIE JONES WITH THE KING BEES Liza Jane (Super rare original 1964 UK 7” vinyl single on the Decca Records subsidiary Vocalion Pop, the first recording released as a single by the young David Jones, just 17 years old at the time. The B-side ofthe single is a lively version of the Paul Revere & The Raiders song ‘Louie, Louie Go Home’, with both songs recorded in a seven-hour session at Decca Studios in Broadhurst Gardens, West Hampstead. Part of a flurry of British Beat/RnB 45s allhoping to storm the charts that year, the single sold poorly, with most copies ending up in the possession of producer Leslie Conn [also credited as the A-side's songwriter], who reportedly disposed of the remaining stock years later. Complete with its period Vocalion die-cut sleeve, this treasured example comes complete with a period 5” x 5” black & white publicity photo for the King Bees, signed & dated in black marker pen by the late Bowie as well as the original guitarist Roger Bluck, who has signed below his respective image in biro. Obtained from its one previous owner, a second cousin to Bluck, the signatures were acquired backstage at a David Bowie show during his Outside tour at the Aberdeen Exhibition Centre on 29 November 1995, overseen by David’s personal assistant Coco Schwab.
