ART PEPPER Art Pepper (Superb 1983 French only 18-track triple LP box set repackaging of the Galaxy LPs 'Straight Life', 'Landscape' & 'Winter Moon' from 1979, 1980 & 1981 respectively. Together they make up a fantastic selection from Art's miracle comeback years where his playing couldn't have been better if he'd been an angel sent down from heaven. There is so much soul in every note of this set, but also a great deal of his more technical playing. The two opposite extremes perfectly captured on side four, where the haunting 'Over The Rainbow' is followed by the amazing 'Straight Life' track itself. The unique box [with photo by Laurie Pepper on the front], shows just a little light wear & being mostly white there are a few spots of discolouration but the incredible music within remains flawless. Trapped in the vinyl inside the simple paper sleeves is some of the most astonishing Alto Sax ever recorded. All three albums are essential 'must haves' for anybody with ears) more...

ART PEPPER Art Pepper Meets The Rhythm Section (2010 issue UK 10-track digitally remastered CD album - By all accounts, this early 1957 session should have been a disaster. Recently released from federal prison, Pepper was still struggling with a heroin addiction and severely out of practice. The gig had been set up by Pepper's girlfriend [unbeknownst to him until just hours before the sessions were to begin], and he discovered at the last minute that - after several months of not playing - the cork in the mouthpiece of his horn had come loose. But in the end, the session proved to be a triumph rather than a disaster, with the camaraderie between Pepper and the Rhythm Section resulting in one of Art's greatest recordings. Includes the Bonus Recording 'The Man I Love', which was recorded at this session but was not included in the original album. Complete with extensive sleevenotes written by Jazz writer/broadcaster Neil Tesser) more...
