JOE HARRIOTT QUINTET Abstract (1998 European digitally
remastered issue of the 1963 8-track album, from a peak period in
modern jazz when ideas were fresh and freeflowing, challenging but
also highly accessible, not least the trickle of contemporary sounds
coming from the British capital at the time. Features Joe's formidable
team of Shake Keane (trumpet, flugelhorn), Pat Smythe (piano),
Coleridge Goode (bass) & Phil Seamen (drums))

THE JOE HARRIOTT QUINTET Abstract (Super Rare 1963 UK
first press 8-track mono LP on the blue & black Columbia label
in the Lansdowne Jazz Series, documenting an early set of
Free Jazz ideas from Britain to rival the work of Ornette
Coleman atthe time, also starring Shake Keane [trumpet,
flugelhorn], Pat Smythe [piano], Coleridge Goode [bass] &
Phil Seamen [drums], front laminated flipback picture sleeve
complete with the Emitex inner. The sleeve [VG+] is clean
with no writing & the flipbacks are secure [tiny plain sticker
at the top of the vertical flipback]. The corners reveal a little
bit of paper loss over time with all print clearly legible. The
vinyl is clean & grades EX/EX- with a few minor spindle marks
& the occasional light paper hairline scuff which has little
effect on play on its intended mono playback setting. Very
tricky to find in any condition & rarely seen on the market

THE TONY KINSEY QUINTET featuring JOE HARRIOTT/ DIZZY
REECE QUARTET At The Jazz Band Ball Acetate (One-off 1957
UK 12" double-sided metal based ultra high-grade methyl
cellulose lacquer acetate, containing a unique & unreleased
recording of the May 9th, 1957 BBC radio broadcast, At The
Jazz Band Ball, introduced by Dill Jones & produced by Jimmy
Grant. The acetate has a Sapphire manufacturing label both
sides with annotated artist & show details [At The Jazz Band
Ball was a BBC Special put together by the team behind the
'Jazz Club' show]. The disc is fleshed out with two previously
unreleased BBC session recordings by the Dizzy Reece Quartet
from the same broadcast. Considering it was common practice
at this point for the BBC to wipe & re-use tapes for other
programmes, this makes for quite a discovery! See 'more
info' for further details...)

JOE HARRIOTT QUINTET Free Form (Legendary 1961 first US
issue 8-track deep groove mono LP on the black & orange
Jazzland label, recorded at Lansdowne Studios in London,
England in 1960 with Shake Keane (trumpet), Pat Smythe
(piano) Coleridge Goode (bass) & Phil Seamen (drums). This
was music without set harmony or rhythm, going a step
further than Ornette Coleman but without much commercial
reward, it is now considered a landmark album. The pasted
picture sleeve [VG] has just a little mild discolouring around
the edges & a half inch split at the bottom opening, with all
text clearly legible, it is fully textured with wonderful abstract
artwork. The vinyl is clean & Excellent with just a few faint
paper hairlines not affecting play JLP49)

JOE HARRIOTT QUINTET Free Form (Deleted 2007 UK 8-track CD
album, originally released in 1960, highlighting Harriott's dazzlingly
innovative approach to jazz, which he developed in parallel with [and
entirely separate from] Ornette Coleman's works across the Atlantic;
Harriott and his group [Shake Keane, Pat Smythe, Coleridge Goode
and Phil Seaman] took a unique approach, dispensing with showboat
solos, and allowing pieces to progress naturally - an essential addition
to any jazz collection! Presented in sealed card slipcase)

THE JOE HARRIOTT QUINTET High Spirits (Monster Rare British
Jazz 1965 UK-only 8-track mono LP on the blue & black
Columbia label, in the highly collectable Lansdowne Jazz Series,
recorded in London in September 1964 with Shake Keane
[Trumpet,Flugelhorn], Pat Smythe [Piano], Coleridge Goode
[Bass] & Bobby Orr [Drums]. The album sold so poorly at the
time that we have never been able to find a single copy of this
wonderfully underrated album, a British answer to John
Coltrane's style of interpreting standards for the Bop age. This is
a superb one previous owner copy. Complete with the 'Emitex'
inner, the front laminated flipback sleeve is Excellent with very
little shelf wear & no writing or tears. The vinyl is clean &
remains in Excellent condition with just the odd faint paper scuff
not affecting play. Unlikely to be seen again! 33SX1692)
