KENNY CLARKE Kenny Clarke (1955 US 8-track mono LP on
heavyweight vinyl with deep groove red & silver Savoy labels & 'RVG'
[Rudy Van Gelder] etched in the run-outs. This is the original issue
before the Telefunken Blues name change & alternative cover [a
dapper looking Kenny behind the sticks was suspiciously replaced with
an attractive blonde]! This album comprises sessions recorded on
November 1st 1954 & February 7th 1955, banding together men from
three outstanding jazz camps: the Count Basie Band [Frank Wess,
Henry Coker], Modern Jazz Quartet [Percy Heath, Milt Jackson] & the
West Coast hard-swinging set [Gerald Wiggins, Frank Morgan]. The
heavyweight pasted laminate sleeve is tape reinforced at the edges
[no splits whatsoever] & the vinyl is super clean & looks barely
played. Wonderful! MG12006)
