the extremely rare 1956 6-track LP, also featuring Hank Mobley on
Tenor, Doug Watkins on Bass, Donald Byrd on Trumpet, Mal Waldron
on Piano & Art Taylor on Drums in Quartet, Quintet& Sextet formats.
This LP includes the original Japanese insert, fully laminated flipback
picture sleeve reproducing the original Prestige artwork & rare
obi-strip. A quick look at the run out groove & the deep groove labels,
tells you that this was pressed from the same plates as the Prestige
PRLP7048 LP. The sleeve shows minimal wear & the vinyl is
immaculate. A fantastic copy of this rare pressing at a fraction of the

LP on the Blue Note 'New York USA' address label, with 'Van
Gelder' stamp in the run-outs, recorded on September 16, 1964
with Charles Tolliver, Bobby Hutcherson, Cecil McBee & Billy
Higgins. Comes housed in the original pasted picture sleeve with
the Liberty company inner. The sleeve is Very Good [UK supplier
sticker on rear] with some faint age wear & the start of a little
paper fracturing to a few edges, with all print clearly legible
including the spine. The vinyl is clean & grades VG+ showing
some spindle marks & the occasional few hairline marks not
affecting the sound on a mono playback setting. By no means
perfect, this is still a presentable example & the first we've ever

Industries, with custom printed black on white labels. Alto Madness was
first recorded in May 1957 with backing by Wade Legge, Doug Watkins
and Arthur Taylor on piano, bass and drums respectively, the method
to the madness, as favoured by class musicians such as McLean and
Jenkins at the time, being the method of Charlie Parker! Includes a
blinding, uptempo and boppish take on The Lady Is A Tramp. Despite a
