A FEW OF THE ITEMS WE WANT...
 | BARRY ST. JOHN According To St. John (Wonderfully Groovy
1968 13-track LP by the Glaswegian soul singer who did her
apprenticeship at The Star Club in Hamburg, returned to sign
with Decca for a few singles before releasing this LP on Major
Minor a couple of years later. In the intervening half century,
her singles and this album have become firm favourites with
the Northern Soul scene and she now enjoys probably more
popularity than she had at the time. This album includes both
ofher contemporary singles, Cry Like A Baby & By The Time I
Get To Phoenix, along with belting versions of Etta James’s
Tell Mama, Otis Redding’s Fa Fa Fa (Sad Song) and William
Bell’s Love-Eye-‘tis. With backing vocals by Sue & Sunny and
Lesley Duncan, along with Barrelhouse 'Jerry Lee' piano
provided by Chas Hodges, this album could easily have been
recorded in the USA. The front laminated picture sleeve shows
just a little light wear, mostly to the unlaminated back & the
vinyl remains in excellent condition with few signs of play. A
superb copy of a very rewarding album! MMLPP43)
