Banish Misfortune 1:52 | | DAVY GRAHAM Folk, Blues & Beyond... (Not much to say about this
rare 1964 16-track LP really, apart from the fact it was to make as
much of an impression on the Acoustic players of the UK as Jimi
Hendrix did to the Electric players a few years later. This was the blue
touch paper from which the UK Folk boom rocketed forth, infused with
the rambling troubadour influences that Davy Graham soaked up
during years of wandering. This copy is amazing LK4649) Not enough room up here to describe condition, so please travel to the 'More Info' section ...
Tracklisting: Packed with sixteen tracks of pure genius, each of the mono recordings put a new peg down for the Acoustic guitar player. With influences ranging from his Scottish Gaelic & Carribean heritage, his extensive Mediterranean travels taking in Indian and Arabic forms into his own blend of traditional, Jazz & blues, Davy was a one-off from the start.
His classic 'Anji' had already become a rite of passage for the aspiring Folkie, but this 1964 album continued with tracks such as 'Sally Free And Easy', 'Black Is The Colour Of My True Love's Hair' & 'Maajun', which were to be adopted and adapted by the likes of Bert Jansch, Donovan & Jimmy Page. Equally at home dispensing traditional blues, folk or Jazz, Davy was a pioneer, the likes of which had never been seen before on these shores, now considered as one of the greatest influences on UK Acoustic players, if not the greatest.
The title of the album was no empty boast.
Condition:
The sleeve is the typical front laminated type of the period. There are the usual small creases at the spine but nothing really to write home about.
The sleeve notes on the back are by Producer Ray Horricks & the album was engineered by Gus Dudgeon.
Of particular note here is that the whites on the sleeve are WHITE, including the back, with the spine easily readable and free from the discolouration and laminate creasing that you usually find.
The sleeve isn't much different to the way it was when it was purchased over fifty five years ago and has been carefully looked after by its single owner ever since.
The labels are the red 'deep groove' unboxed Decca monos as you would expect. There are just a few light spindle marks around the centre hole indicating just light play [or a good aim].
The vinyl is spectacular.
It has retained its sheen and shows almost no sign of play whatsoever.
These albums were pressed for wider, more round than elliptical styli, so can actually sound better on a dedicated mono setup, although this still remains mighty fine on a modern stereo rig.
No point saying 'first press' or 'A-1/B-1' matrices as they all were. This was it. It didn't sell in huge numbers at the time and its relative importance in history has only really happened in the years since when so many guitarists were asked over the years 'Who were you most influenced by ?' 'Davy Graham'.
This amazing one owner copy is is near 'as new' as you are ever likely to find.
There is no better copy out there. This really is as good as it gets and was an amazing treat to find looking like this.
Satisfaction guaranteed !

13-track vinyl LP on the Eron label, limited to just 500 copies,
this release was part of the label's mission to showcase the
best Folk that the South-East of England could produce and
certainly hits its brief with this collection by the man dubbed
'the Father of modern British Folk' reworking some of his
early material to magical effect, front laminated picture
sleeve. The sleeve has a little fading at the spine and has
'review copy' penned to the reverse, whilst the vinyl has just
a few faint scuffs and no real sign of spindle wear leaving it
Excellent with an eye on a higher grading - the first copy we
have ever seen and certainly not to be seen again in such
condition! ERON007)

Blue Raga | | DAVY GRAHAM & ALEXIS KORNER 3/4 A.D. (2013 UK Record Store Day limited edition
3-track 7" vinyl EP, originally issued in 1962, picture sleeve
reproducing the first issue sleeve artwork. The first recordings by the
legendary Davy Graham, recorded by Bill Leader at his home in
London in April 1961 and released one year later. Starting off with the
signature tune 'Angi' [or 'Anji'], this had as much of an effect on
English acoustic music as Jimi Hendrixhad for the electric. This was the
tune that set the benchmark for all others to strive to reach before
they could classify themselves a 'competent' player. The second side
contains a duet with Alexis Korner from which the title of the EP comes,
being the time signature & the initial letters of both their christian
names. Remaining factory sealed, this is a welcome re-issue of a very
hard to find classic STOP2013)

The title of the album was no empty boast.
This is a rare late sixties BOXED Decca logo issue of the 1964 classic, even harder to find than the first label.
Condition:
The sleeve is the typical front laminated type of the period. There are the usual small creases at the spine, a little age discolouration to the reverse panel and with all text remaining clearly visible.
The sleeve notes on the back are by Producer Ray Horricks & the album was engineered by Gus Dudgeon.
The labels are boxed Decca logo late sixties variants as you would expect.
The vinyl itself is in wonderful near mint with very little evidence of play.
If your amp has a mono setting, it would be advised to set this from the off. These albums were pressed for wider, more round than elliptical styli, so can actually sound better on a dedicated mono setup, although this still remains mighty fine on a modern stereo rig.
This didn't sell in huge numbers at the time and its relative importance in history has only really happened in the years since when so many guitarists were asked over the years 'Who were you most influenced by ?' 'Davy Graham'.
A landmark recording in much better than usually found condition. Satisfaction guaranteed !
