A FEW OF THE ITEMS WE WANT...
| JIMMY DEUCHAR QUARTET & SEXTET Pal Jimmy! (Impossible To Find
1958 UK first press 8-track mono vinyl LP on Tempo Records, part of
Tempo's sought after Modern Jazz Series, recorded in London, England
that year with Jimmy Deuchar on trumpet, TubbyHayes on tenor &
baritone sax, Derek Humble on alto sax, Harry South on piano, Kenny
Napper on bass & Phil Seamen on drums. Comes housed in the original
fully laminated flipback picture sleeve. See 'more info' for condition
details... TAP20)
Tracklisting: A1 My Funny Valentine 3:25
A2 I Didn't Know What Time It Was 6:20
A3 Bewitched, Bothered And Bewildered 4:30
A4 I Could Write A Book 6:00
B1 Heather Mist 5:00
B2 Jak-Jak 4:45
B3 Pal Jimmy 6:05
B4 Split Second 4:00
Condition :-
The sleeve has survived over half a century in remarkable condition & remains in Very Good order. The panels are clean with no writing or major splits & there are some natural creases caused from ring wear & the flimsy nature of its design, leading to the odd tiny thumbnail rupture or pinch mark on the spine, all print is clearly legible. Certainly one for the Jazz archives.
The heavyweight vinyl has been professionally cleaned & play tested. The disc reaches a Very Good grade. Visually speaking, there are multiple hairlines, some paper scuffs & spindle marks either side, but no heavy scratches - thanks to the high quality British vinyl pressings of this era, playback remains impressive. There is a little faint background noise during the quieter sections & some very light crackle during the first track to be expected due to its age & conditions, with no jumps or sticks. Once the album gets going & particularly on the louder numbers, it's a really enjoyable listen on its intended mono playback setting, & of course the performances are exceptional. Although far from mint, this remains a serviceable example of a highly in demand Modern Jazz LP from Britain on the famous Tempo imprint, it goes without saying original copies are long washed up & near impossible to find! It's our first & only example of this mythical British Jazz treasure, unlikely to be seen again... | | JIMMY DEUCHAR QUARTET & SEXTET Pal Jimmy! (Impossible To Find

Test Pressing for Side A only [4 tracks] of the
impossibly rare mono LP titled 'Pal Jimmy' on Tempo Records,
part of Tempo's sought after Modern Jazz Series. Contains the
tracks'My Funny Valentine', 'I Didn't Know What Time It Was',
'Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered' & 'I Could Write A Book'
recorded in London, England on March 7, 1958 with Jimmy
Deuchar on trumpet, Tubby Hayes on tenor & baritone sax, Harry
South onpiano, Kenny Napper on bass & Phil Seamen on drums.
Although Side B is lost to the mists of time & not included here,
it's worth noting that those particular B-side tracks were
recorded during an earlier Sextet date & did not star Tubby
Hayes [Rodgers & Hart musical covers from Pal Joey, lending the
album it's 'Pal Jimmy' title]. What you have here is the very
sought after Hard Bop side in its earliest test pressing form. The
factory label is custom printed with 'Not For Sale' text & stamped
one side with the matrix, catalogue number & earliest 'Selection
- Jimmy Deuchar' suggested title - a wonderful find for the
British Jazz historian & collector. Housed in a plain die-cut sleeve,
the 'VMGT 1 329-2E' matrix number is stamped in the run-out of
the vinyl. Best heard on its intended mono playback setting, the
heavyweight vinyl has been professionally cleaned & is strictly
graded VG+ with several light paper hairlines & the odd faint
scuff which has little effect on play other than the occasional
background surface on occasion, with no jumps or sticks. A
unique one-off discovery TAP20)
