A FEW OF THE ITEMS WE WANT...

RICHARD BRAUTIGAN Listening To Richard Brautigan (A unique 1969 UK original hand assembled piece of proof artwork commissioned by Zapple Records & featuring what was to become the rear sleeve for the aborted album. This unique piece of artwork measures approximately 13" x 13", laid on a 15" x 20" stiff card backing & was designed by John Kosh. It features three pages including tracing paper overlays. It comes with excellent provenance in that it was obtained from anex-employee of Apple when the offices closed in the mid Seventies)
See 'More Info' for further details ...

Tracklisting: This unique piece of artwork was designed by the famous Apple designer John Kosh who was responsible for many Beatles/Solo album sleeves such as Let It Be and The Wedding Album box as well as other famous album sleeves by such artists as The Rolling Stones, The Eagles and The Who. THE DESIGN The overall dimensions of the piece are 15" x 20" with the design itself being approximately 13" square. The top/cover page is plain black paper with similar texture to the familiar black Apple album inner sleeves. The second page is plain tracing paper with annotations 'yellow' & 'black' referring to the text & background colour of the top of the sleeve design. The third page is like thick tracing paper with 'ZAP01' & 'LISTENING TO RICHARD BRAUTIGAN' labels mounted for positional effect. This dates this design to a very early period as the ZAP01 number was never actually used & this album was finally scheduled for release as 'ZAPPLE03' in late 1969. The bottom is a thick white card, upon which is mounted the format for the sleeve design with 'LISTENING TO RICHARD BRAUTIGAN' header text followed by brief sleeve notes. Under this are two 6½" x 8" black & white photographs depicting Richard & his then girlfriend Valerie Estes. Across the two photographs is hand written 'Position Only' in red chinagraph pencil. Sadly for all of us, only two test acetates were ever made of the final album before Allen Klein closed Zapple down, although it was finally issued on EMI Harvest in the US in 1970 - Interestingly, using EXACTLY the same sleeve design as this, so they must have liked it! This is a superb piece of Apple history - a one of a kind - for a project that was eventually scrapped!
