A FEW OF THE ITEMS WE WANT...
| THE ZBIGNIEW NAMYSLOWSKI MODERN JAZZ QUARTET Lola
(Rare 1964 UK first press 8-track deep groove Mono LP on the
unboxed Decca label, starring the acclaimed alto saxophonist
alongside Wlodzimierz [Wlodek] Gulgowski on piano, Tadeusz
Wojcik, bass& drummer Czeslaw Bartkowski. Recorded at
Decca Studios, London & opening with the marvellous original
Pekna Lola, Kwiat Polnocy (Beautiful Lola, Flower Of The
North) & closing with a lively version of Ol' Man River, this is,
historically, the first album by a Polish jazz musician outside
of Poland. This outstanding jazz rarity comes from the private
collection of a former staff member for Dobells record shop in
Charing Cross. The front laminated flipback picture sleeve has
a 'Guarranteed' record shop stamp & a small letter annotation
on the back, both unobtrusive to the print. The cover [VG+]
shows just a little minor age yellowing & ring wear & a faint
corner crease, with nice rich colours & all text is clearly
legible including along the spine. The vinyl is nice & clean &
grades EX/EX- with only a few faint spindle marks & a few
light paper hairlines not affecting play. The sound is
wonderful & the whole album is a mini masterpiece & comes
highly recommended LK4644)
Tracklisting: 1. Pekna Lola, Kwiat Polnocy (Beautiful Lola, Flower Of The North)
2. Leszek I Ludwig
3. Piatawka (In 5/4 Time)
4. Blues Shmues

8. Ol' Man River | | ZBIGNIEW NAMYSLOWSKI MODERN JAZZ QUARTET Lola (Rare and
desirable test pressing of the 1964 UK 8-track LP in its
STEREO form. Not only are stock copies rare, stereo issues appear to
be harder still, let alone a stereo test pressing! The custom
two-colour label has 'factory sample not for sale' print and hand
annotated catalogue and artist information enscrawled to the centre.
These copies were made in extremely small numbers for sonic review
purposes only, and not to beissued to journalists or radio before the
promotion stage. Stars the acclaimed alto saxophonist Namyslowski
alongside Wlodzimierz [Wlodek] Gulgowski on piano, Tadeusz Wojcik
bass and drummer Czeslaw Bartkowski. Recorded at London's Decca
Studios, this is historically the first album by a Polish jazz musician
outside of Poland. Opens with the marvellous original Pekna Lola,
Kwiat Polnocy (Beautiful Lola, Flower Of The North) and closes with a
lively version of Ol' Man River! Housed in a die-cut inner, the vinyl
appears to have hardly been played at all. A wonderful piece of
European jazz history SKL4644)

find 1975 Polish 4-track LP by the great saxophonist (the first Polish
jazz musician to receive an international longplayer release), recorded
in Warsaw in March that year with Tomasz Szukalski on soprano &
tenor, Wojciech ('Easy') Karolak on piano, Pawel Jarzebski, bass and
Czeslaw Bartowski, drums. The picture sleeve has some edge scuffing
but is otherwise very good - the vinyl looks barely played! SX1230)
