Tracklisting & More Information

Released in Holland in June 1965, what was the group's second British album actually appeared after the Dutch 'Greatest Hits' LP, leading to this album sharing the same catalogue number as the UK 'The Rolling Stones No. 2' but being re-titled 'The Rolling Stones No. 3'. This was initially issued in Holland with a similar cover to the UK version, but subsequent releases used different artwork altogether.

The first Dutch release uses the same David Bailey cover shot that had also graced the U.S '12 X 5' album, but only four songs (Under The Boardwalk, Suzie Q, Grown Up Wrong and Time Is On My Side) overlap on the two albums.
This album offered seven songs that weren't to make it out in America until four months later on 'The Rolling Stones Now!'. It also includes one of the group's best blues covers, their version of Muddy Waters' I Can't Be Satisfied, which wasn't released in America until 1973, featuring some killer slide playing by Brian Jones. The LP was originally released in mono only.

The labels are blue [unlike the UK red] with unboxed Decca logo and ffrr logo at the top of the label.

The matrix numbers are machine stamped into the 'dead wax' areas. They are as follows:

Side One XARL-6619-1L
Side Two XARL-6620-2L

Condition:

The vinyl shows several light surface hairlines and the odd scuff, but none deep enough to feel or affect play. The solid sixties pressing makes these blemishes mostly cosmetic in nature.
There are a few marks around the spindle hole but nothing to indicate excessive play. A not mint, but still very acceptable disc.

The flimsy sleeve is more like a fifties sleeve than a mid sixties printing. Despite its VERY flimsy nature, it has somehow survived the rigours of half a Century with pride. The back shows nothing but the tiniest degree of age yellowing that is only actually noticable because someone has removed a historic sticker, showing that the back was once even whiter. The laminate on the front is beautiful & clean with just a few light creases & minimal wear. All edges and corners are sharp, the spine print clearly legible. There is a little laminate split at the centre of the spine, but that's it.
The faces of the band have a noticable pink tinge that makes even Keith look healthy !

Contrary to the claims of eBay gloryhunters, the UK versions of the sleeve existed in both censored and uncensored forms right through to the Boxed logo label versions. It is likely that this is the only Dutch variant, which is the uncensored version with the controversial 'Blind Man' text.

Nice condition Stones originals are becoming increasingly difficult to find, more so than Beatles first issues. Their value has rocketed in recent years and shows no sign of slowing. This would make a great investment or worthy addition to any serious collection!
