VARIOUS The Jazz Scene (1994 US 38-track 2-CD deluxe edition of a remarkable project that Norman Granz originally released in 1949 on 78rpm. A perfect survey of the era, containing all of the original recordings involving small-group sides byLester Young, Charlie Parker & Bud Powell, major works by arrangers Ralph Burns & George Handy plus Coleman Hawkins' pioneering tenor solo piece entitled 'Picasso'. The album set replicates the original black & white photos, extensive liner notes & David Stone Martin's artwork, with pasted picture innards, individual pockets for the discs, & even a facsimile of Granz's signature & numbering on the first page. Housed in a textured hard cover binder with gold embossed lettering & wraparound dust jacket. A beautiful collectors item in Excellent condition)
