Deep Purple survived a seemingly endless series of lineup changes and a dramatic mid-career shift from grandiose progressive rock to ear-shattering heavy metal to emerge as a true institution of the British hard rock community. After just two albums the record label folded, and after recruiting Ian Gillan and Roger Glover the band started afresh. Blackmore took creative control, steering the band towards a heavier, guitar dominated approach. 1970's Deep Purple in Rock heralded the beginning of the group's most creatively and commercially successful period. The classic lineup of Blackmore, Gillan, Lord, Glover, and Paice reunited Deep Purple in 1984, but two albums later past tensions resurfaced and Gillan left in 1989. The late '90s/early 2000s saw the release of several archival releases and collections. Despite numerous lineup upheavals during their career, Deep Purple remains alive and well in the 21st century. With nearly 40 years of classic rock to choose from there is no shortage of back catalogue rarities, amazing memorabilia and quality collectibles all available right here in our specialist Deep Purple collectors store. |
