JAPAN Gentlemen Take Polaroids (1980 UK 7" vinyl single also featuring The Experience Of Swimming in the rare single pocket picture sleeve, as opposed to the usual gatefold sleeve which was used for the double pack 7" release. Used as prizes for a Smash Hits magazine competition of which there around 100 copies only, the sleeve has been clearly AUTOGRAPHED by David Sylvian, Mick Karn, Richard Barbieri, Steve Jansen and Rob Dean on the front of the sleeve in black & blue ballpoint pen! VS379)

This entry is for the single VS 379, supplied in a single-sleeve, not the double-pack version Gentlemen Take Polaroids.

There are several inconsistencies around this release. Many copies of the record have labels where the A or B side label may have Record One included in the text; (a reference to the double-pack single).

The magazine Smash Hits gave away about 100 fully autographed copies of this standard single in a competition. This autographed single use the same catalogue number as the UK double-pack. Further signed copies were sold at Virgin Record shops, making it easier to find than the unsigned version.
