The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan - Transitional Labels

BOB DYLAN The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan (Incredibly rare 1963 US First Pressing 13-track STEREO LP on the red Columbia '360 Sound' 'nonbreakable' label with text in black on the side one label, but in white without 'Masterworks' text, making this a real oddity, first issue pasted picture sleeve with vertical '© Columbia Records' text on the front bottom left. Both sleeve & vinyl are in fantastic condition - an incredible 'time warp' copy! CS8786)

Condition:

The sleeve shows minimal shelfwear with few signs of scuffing or age yellowing. The vertical '© Columbia Records' text at the bottom left of the front of the sleeve confirms this as a first issue sleeve as this text was removed from all subsequent issues.

The vinyl remains in excellent condition with only light signs of play and a few minor surface scuffs on close inspection that do not affect play.

The labels are a real peculiarity as the Side One label is exactly what you would expect for a 1963 pressing - 'Nonbreakable', black text '360 Sound' with no arrows & no 'Masterworks' reference.
The Side Two label is very strange as it still has the 'Nonbreakable' text but now has the '360 Sound' in white with arrows but curiously no 'Masterworks' reference either as it would have had for a 1964 pressing. In essence this is similar to a 1965 label but that would not have had the 'Nonbreakable' text.

Columbia are beginning to become the US version of Decca in the UK with their strange label variations. I'd love to know how this one came about as the blank label doesn't tie in with the print design. If you know then drop us a line!

A wonderful & unusual copy of this classic album.
