MIKE TAYLOR QUARTET Pendulum (2025 UK/EU 6-track LP
pressed on 180-gram black vinyl, originally released in 1966
in the British Jazz Explosion Lansdowne Series. A
long-coveted holy grail of British jazz, Pendulum
marked the stunning 1966 debut of pianist-composer Mike
Taylor. Recorded at the iconic Lansdowne Studios with
pioneering producer Denis Preston, the album captures the
creative peak of a fiercely original musical mind, lost too
soon. This long-overdue reissue by Decca is remastered from
the original tapes using Gearbox Records' acclaimed
  all-analogue mastering chain: a Studer C37 ¼-inch tape
machine, vintage valve EQ and limiters, and a 1967 Haeco
Scully Lathe — the same used by Rudy Van Gelder — for
lacquer cutting. Side One features radical reinterpretations of
jazz standards - including an explosive, extended version of
Dizzy Gillespie's "A Night In Tunisia" - while Side Two
showcases Taylor's bold and adventurous compositions, rich
with modal explorations and rhythmic interplay. His quartet,
featuring Dave Tomlin (saxophone), Tony Reeves (bass), and
John Hiseman (drums), deliver crisp, intuitive performances
throughout. Taylor's tragic story - culminating in his death by
drowning in 1969 at age 30 - has cast a long shadow over his
work, but this release allows a fresh reappraisal of his rare
and remarkable contribution to British jazz. Picture sleeve
with original cover artwork and 4-page insert with new liner
notes, hype sticker & factory sealed. Recommended)

MIKE TAYLOR Trio (2025 UK/EU 8-track LP pressed on
180-gram black vinyl, originally released in 1967 in the
British Jazz Explosion Lansdowne Series, Trio by
Mike Taylor is a singular document of British jazz in
its most exploratory and emotive form. Pianist Mike Taylor —
joined here by Jack Bruce and/or Ron Rubin on bass and John
Hiseman on drums — shapes a deeply introspective sound,
drawing on modern modal jazz, lyrical improvisation and
  elegant restraint.
The setincludes a rich balance of standards such as “All The
Things You Are” and “Stella By Starlight” alongside Taylor's
own contemplative originals like “Two Autumns” and “Guru”.
His distinctive harmonic sensibility and touch on the piano,
both delicate and searching, give this album a timeless
  emotional resonance.
This new edition has been remastered from the original
tapes at Gearbox Records' London studio, using the
  finest all-analogue equipment: a Studer C37 ¼-inch tape
machine, vintage valve EQ and limiters, and a 1967 Haeco
Scully Lathe — the same used by Rudy Van Gelder — for
lacquer cutting. The result is a warm, spacious and intimate
  rendering of this long-overlooked masterpiece.
