In 1991, a 14 year old Alanis released her eponymous debut album which was a collection of pop-oriented dance numbers and ballads that was successful in Canada, selling over 100,000 copies, and leading to a Juno Award for Most Promising Female Artist. Following the release of her second album, she relocated to Los Angeles, where she met Glen Ballard who had previously worked with Michael Jackson and David Hasselhoff. They decided to pursue an edgier, alternative rock-oriented direction. The result was 'Jagged Little Pill' which went on to sell in excess of 20 million copies. Her much-anticipated follow-up, 'Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie', was released in the autumn of 1998 but failed to match neither the commercial nor critical acclaim of '...Pill'. The subsequent follow ups 'Under Rug Swept' and 'So Called Chaos' were patchy affairs but she was still proving a big draw on the live circuit with her shows selling out across the globe. Ten years after the success of 'Jagged Little Pill', Alanis re-recorded the album in its entirity, acoustically and headed out on the road once again.
