After signing to Caroline Records, they issued the self-titled debut in 1996. The album was a surprise hit in the U.K., where the group became the toast of the British music weeklies and they further enhanced their growing reputation by opening for the mighty U2.
There energetic live performances bought them to the attention of another music legend David Bowie who personally invited them to perform at his 50th birthday party in New York. The next album 'Without You I'm Nothing' was huge success in Europe and
initially appeared to be the breakthrough they were looking for in the U.S., with the single 'Pure Morning', but subsequent singles failed to match its success. Although Placebo's third release, 'Black Market Music', was issued in England during 2000,
it wasn't until several months later that the album saw its stateside release that included a newly recorded track with new friend David Bowie. While the record spawned further U.K. hits, the album was not as strong or focused as its predecessor.
'Sleeping With Ghosts' showed a harder edge to their music and the change met with rave reviews throughout Europe. The band had a busy 2004 releasing the stunning 'Live in Paris' concert dvd as well as 'Once More With Feeling' singles collection.
