ARTURO BENEDETTI MICHELANGELI with THE PHILHARMONIA
ORCHESTRA conducted by ETTORE GRACIS Rachmaninov: Concerto
No. 4 in G minor / Ravel: Concerto in G Major (1959 UK HMV Gold and
Cream label stereo vinyl LP. Performed by Arturo Benedetti
Michelangeli with the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Ettore
Gracis. In addition to being one of the greatest pianists of all time,
Michelangeli was a legendary perfectionist and as a result is recorded
repertoire is unusually small. However, his reading of Rachmaninov's
Concerto No. 4 is widely held up ascomparable to that of
Rachmaninov himself and his interpretation of Ravel was considered
similarly definative - making this very early stereo recording on the
legendary HMV gold and cream label impossibly desirable. Better still,
the record is in faboulous condition for it's age. The laminated
flipback picture sleeve has a small tear on the open edge and lower
flipback, but is in remarkably clean and bright condition despite being
well over fifty years old The original inner sleeve is in mint condition
whilst the disc has a couple of very light surface marks but is
otherwise similarly in fantastic condition and the all important labels
are perfect - excepting, of course, the discrete "Factory Sample - Not
for sale" sticker on side two. A stunning, timewarp copy of a highly
sought after recording! ASD255)
