One of the most successful rock acts of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, Genesis enjoyed a longevity exceeded only by the likes of the Rolling Stones, n the process providing a launching pad for the superstardom of members Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins.
Their debut single, 'The Silent Sun', was released February 1968 and was soon followed by an album neither attracting much notice from the public. Following completion of the second album 'Trespass',
two founding members left and Phil Collins was recruited in July of 1970. His presence toughened up the group's sound, which became apparent immediately upon the release of their next album, 'Nursery Cryme'.
In 1975, following a show in France, Gabriel announced that he was leaving Genesis and Collins was promoted to singer. The group seemed to be on its way to bigger success than it ever had during Gabriel's tenure, as 1977's
'Wind and Wuthering' became another smash. The band continued into the 90's making catchy pop rock albums that were hits on both sides of the Atlantic as well as heading out on numerous sell out world tours.
